I'm recycling a post title I've used before.
But, as with so much that goes on in the S.A., these are really the only words to describe this:
In an e-mail given to The Hatchet by a member of the SA, SA Chief of Staff Greta Twombly, a junior, instructed the cabinet on Sept. 3 to "tell (The Hatchet) the following and ONLY THE FOLLOWING: You all paid for your own food and tickets to all events. This includes Nationals, Redskins, Nooshi, Froggys, etc."Really, guys? Really?
Twombly then instructed the cabinet to "throw in something about how you had to stop Vishal from paying himself and you insisted on paying."
Sometimes, it seems like satire is the only way to deal with these situations. Let me try, though, to be more...uh...straightfoward with my disgust.
I asked not long ago for mutual improvement on the part of the student press and student government at Our Fair University. I believed, at the time, that the S.A. was being unfairly treated by The Hatchet. I didn't realize, obviously, that this was the sort of behavior going on behind the scenes. Even when they're being egged on by annoying reporters, I expect S.A. officials to be more transparent and mature than this. Greta Twombly has shown me to be a stupid optimist.
Whether or not President Aswani was involved, the idea that the Executive intended to deliberately mislead the press about such a simple, non-controversial issue is, well, bizarre and banal. Bizarre because it was unnecessary, and banal because it represents the sort of pompous, self-important politicking that has always been a cancer in the Student Association. Take, for example, this sentence from Twombly's e-mail:
Anyone found leaking this email will have the appropriate action pursued against them.It would be chilling, I suppose, if the S.A. Executive was potent enough to follow up on the threat in a scary way. Alas, they aren't--and if they keep behaving like this, there's no good reason to change that.

NOW it's obvious why Vishal was running scared with preemptive open letters...
The hatchet has Vishal as receiving a CC of the email. Thats enough for me to believe he's in the middle of all this
bill, i'm no hatchet or aswani supporter, but this smelled bad on his end from the get-go. i applaud you for holding the press accountable, but more so for holding him accountable when the press pulled through
seriously, it was just 350$, in an account he's allowed to use, and he instead went apeshit on a hatchet reporter publicly, recklessly claiming she abused his cabinet. what an idiot.
Obviously, someone in the cabinet instead felt abused by aswani. someone had to leak the email
she's crazy!
disgraceful. she should resign if all this turns out to be true, no question about it
